Technically you can run PhysX from your CPU, but your performance would be just too poor, even if you've got a i7 980x @ 5ghz it won't be as good as a simple dedicated physX card.

Look for a guide here on OCN. There are more than 1. One, the newest, lets you use a dedicated physX card with simple clicks and no hard work.

apparently at one point someone got physx to run on ati.
