A build for a grand?

Thread Starter
Well, a friend of mine is looking to spend about $1000 (before rebates, rebates are always a plus) on a rig. He needs all of the obvious hardware and a monitor included in the budget, but I have a copy of windows I can give him. He's using it for basically everything short of video/photo editing, with an emphasis on gaming and music (so a decent sound card would be nice, but not essential as I'm sure he'll be persuaded into setting aside money for a high end audio set up soon )

I've been lining a build out a little bit, but it never hurts to get some other opinions thrown into the mix. So, if you guys had $1000 to drop on a rig, what would you go for. Brand isn't really a factor, I just posted in the AMD section as they tend to give a little more at this price range.

Thanks amigos, looking forward to what you come up with.

A little vague, and missing some components, but a good general guideline I guess, thanks.

Bad deal on RAM
It's 1333 CL9 to begin with and also requires 1.6V which is unacceptable
For about the same price after promo you can get a 1600 CL7-8-7 kit from G.Skill.
For these kinds of tasks you want good speed/low timings anyway.

In addition the 4-combo part deal is terrible as always; the discount is pitifully small and I am 200% sure I can find better components for 3/4 the price.

Full suggestion from me coming up! It will have no less than a 1090T, 8GB of RAM and an SSD.

| is the better one, don't get the luxury of the X6 could upgrade that and maybe drop down to 6GB of Ram or 4GB but 8GB is fairly practical now.

Great Case, Great PSU, Great Video Card, Decent Mobo, Whats not to love... well not in love with the Samsung 1TB HDD but considering the deal for that and PSU... you'd be dumb not too nearly free =)

Well worth getting a 6950.

Well, that one actually took a bit longer than usual this time around The need for monitor sort of ruined a few things, I was hoping to capitalize with a nice 890GX mobo, the Lancool K62 & Antec TP-750 combo.... not possible, but I could compromise

There seems to be a pattern on Newegg combos lately: they all use the same brand. i.e. ASUS board + GPU, Rosewill PSU + case. Made things a bit easier.
