I understand your reasoning but am not sure on how to set it up in my current case. You can click on my system to see all the fans I have available.
do you recommend slightly negative, slightly positive or neutral airflow
hyper 212+ is currently west/east
West/East? That would imply bringing air from the back and pushing it to mid-case. In that case, go with top exhaust.
East-West is more usual, pushing air out the back of the case. With a Hyper 212+ and two fans (push/pull) you could re-create the setup I had in item 2 of my sig. Now granted, that was just a demo, but it shows what a pull fan can do.
I like a setup that is theoretically positive because I can filter all of the places air goes in. I say 'theoretically' because it is mostly flow. I remove the rear grill and leave no fan there. Since the air can freely leave the case, pressure cannot build up. It's quieter, too, with one less fan.
Side panel fan should be intake. Consider either a 140mm fan there or put one of your S-Flexes there. The -F is not so quiet, though, so placement of the case might make it too loud. I'm not sure if a 200mm fan on the side panel would conflict with a full tower cooler like the 212+.
In any case, if you don't shield the parts of the side panel that are not holding fans, they will allow air to exhaust there.
