Xbox 360 Elite broken DVD drive - Page 2

Most of you are supplying him with information on how to flash the DVD drive which:
  1. could break his console completely and be unusable
  2. is not easy to do and he most likely doesn't have the necessary tools
  3. can cause his console to be banned from Xbox LIVE
  4. is against OCN rules

The drive is only reading DVD's and not games because the drive key does not match the motherboard key.

For starters, how did the DVD drive break? I'm assuming it isn't reading your games anymore which is likely caused by a laser malfunction. You can purchase a replacement laser assembly on eBay for about $10 and it's easy to replace.

Since you have two DVD drives though there is an even faster & simpler method. Take both drives apart. Take the PCB board from the Elite drive (the drive that doesn't work) and put it into the Pro drive (the old drive that you have - take the PCB out of that one and either throw it out or save it if you plan on purchasing a replacement drive).

Let me know if you have any questions or need help.

LOL I totally forgot about the PCB replacement method. This method will only work if he has the same DVD drive. So replacing a BenQ PCB in a LiteOn will not work. I just found replacing the key a much simpler way. No flashing or whatever, just replacing the key on the drive.

True, forgot about that .

That's not really a simpler method. You never actually have to "flash" the drive in order to extract the key. Either way though he would have to spoof the other drive to make the console think it's still the same drive which has a greater risk than flashing.
