i5 650 vs i5 750

I'd like to hear your input.
Yes the 650 has integrated HD graphics but the 750 has 4 physical cores. Is it just basically how you will use the computer or is having 4 physical cores actually better than HT?

4 physical cores in MUCH better than hyperthreading. (Though hyperthreading 4 physical cores- like my I7 does- is just awesome)

Hyperthreading just makes a processor more efficient when dealing with multiple threads, they still have to "wait their turn" to go through the physical core.

Plus, why not get more cores and a dedicated graphics card? Here at OCN, we like this thing called overkill :-p

Well, between the 750 and 650, which would be more powerful?

750 on multithreaded applications. on single threaded apps it would depend on which one is clocked higher

Given that there is only few software that is mainstream that utilize multiple cores, I would say that impact on daily driver benefiting from 4 cores vs 2 cores with HT is pretty negligible.

Sure there are games that utilize multiple cores, but given that you are even considering integrated graphics over dedicated tells us that you are looking for a none gamer machine, so I would say you would be fine with either one.

i5-650 is just inflated i3 with higher multi, and you might even be better off saving yourself a buck or two by just going with a i3-540 instead.

i5-750 would be my choice. If you game or do anything graphically intensive, you will want descrete GPU anyway.

Depends. i5s 600 32nms given a mobo like the evga classi p200 or the asus Maximus III and an h70 can probably clock upwards of 4.5ghz + very easily and with HT off can possibly hit 5ghz on 32nm and the right conditions. This a cut below current SB chips. So it all depends, if you're playing an older game which requires higher cloks than more cores, id take the i5 650. Do you multitask alot or play new games? 750. Like Overclocking? 650. Like 4 physical cores vs two knock off ones? 750.

Clock for clock the i5-750 would be faster than the 650.
