*PICS* BC2 - VERY LARGE GAINS with i5-2500k upgrade from Q9650 Benchmarks - Page 26

I actually believe that there would be a significant increase in FPS when upgrading from a Core 2 Quad CPU to a Sandy CPU.

I gained about 40 - 70 FPS in BC2 when I upgraded my Q9300 @ 3.3 GHZ with a GTX 470 to a 2600K @ stock with a GTX 570.

When i was running my C2Q my 470 never hit 99% GPU usage in BC2. Now with a 2600K my 580 GPU is pegged at 99% the entire time I am playing. I didn't take the time to compare GPU usage on the GTX 470 with my new 2600K cpu but if my Q9300 bottlenecked a 470 then I assume it would bottleneck a 580 even more so. I know that the 5XX series GPUs are more efficient though so that should be considered as well.

In any event, refresh rates and VSYNC aside, we all know that BC2 is able to leverage CPUs more than most games so it is a pretty safe bet to say that stepping up your CPU from a C2Q to a second gen I Series CPU would increase your performance significantly when paird with a high end GPU.

Well, I tested singleplayer BC2 using my Q9650@4.05GHz and GTX 570@850/2000. Used the same resolution as OP. 1600x1200 and same settings. I experienced no CPU bottlenecking. GPU was mostly at 95 - 99%. And I had framerates at 120FPS +...

However, OP states that one must use online play at a 32 person server in order to know if I'm being bottlenecked or not. Well, I do not have a EA account to test this.

Anyway, when testing single player, I have tested this games engine.

I'm usually playing at 1920x1200 anyway. Most play at these resolutions. So 1600x1200 is not very interesting.

I get similar results 120+fps with my Q9650/5870 in single player... I should go into single player again and see what happens, we should load a checkpoint that drops us both in the same location of the map and not move the mouse and take a SS so it will be a consistent. But ya 32 person full servers are much more demanding, we also have different cards 570 vs 5870, but any test is better then nothing.

So if I decide to make a video like you did, same map looking up, down and ahead, would you prefer I use my GTX260 or is my 560 close enough to a 5870?

560 would be a better representation of what he is trying to prove.

Which is that a 775 C2Q is bottlenecking high end video cards.. Chances are your 260 will be at 100% gpu & cpu use in this game...

with a high end gpu a 775 c2q seems to limit things, it just cant keep up so the gpu is slowing down...

A 560 should be pretty close to a 5870... Yours may be a tad faster. But not much...

No video needed, your point has been made and nobody is saying that you are lying or results are fake. If you had a 5870 I'd say yes, go for it but since you have a 560 might as well not bother since it's a different card. The video I made was just for me to prove to everyone that my results were real. I'll make a new video if/when I test out a P45 mobo and 560 to test, then we can both join the same server and compare results.

I do have a couple gtx 260's laying around... we should both join the same server and test. Your in game name is Helen Keller right?

Been looking at your video. It clearly shows your Q9650@4GHz are bottlenecking. I would like to see this with a nVidia graphics card, like a 560, 570 or a GTX 580, and also using a motherboard with Intel Chipset. To rule out possible unknown errata.

Or if someone else got an EA account and this game, using the above mentioned...

I'm gonna try to pickup a P45 board, it looks like it should be pretty easy to flip if I decide to not keep it since people are actively bidding on Intel Chipset mobo's right now on ebay. Also I plan to go to Fry's and buy a 560 to test with that.

It would be nice if someone with a C2Q can run the "CPU test" run the game (prefer MP 32 man, but if you want turrican9 go ahead and do SP) at 1024x768 no AA low settings.

I have just done a reinstall after a mobo switch. Will do some overclocking and stability testing for the time being.

I will install BC2 again. But no one is doubting that a Sandy would be faster at 1024x768 with no AA? Of course it would, why wouldn't it?

Everybody knows a Sandybridge is faster than a Q9xxx. I thought the point was to see if the Q9xxx@4GHz was bottlenecking our high-end GPU's in the games we play and the resolutions, details we play them at.

For me that is 1920x1200 and as much AA and details as I can.

Frankly, I don't care if a Sandy can produce 500FPS in a certain game at 800x600 low details VS Q9650 300FPS in that same 800x600 and low details. What I care about is the resolutions/detail levels people play at. If there are huge differences in that area, then we can begin talking about bottlenecking.
