How much better is the GTX 580 than the 285? - Page 2

well i had 285 in as i sent the 480 in to get 580
in folding ppd on 285 was ~7000
today on 580 im geting 19402 ppd.
bc2 i get 100-120 fps (120hz monitor) Now i never ran the 580 @ stock clocks, i got mcw80 water block (DOSE NOT FIT I CRY) put on mcw60 block 47 degs max so far on it 900mhz core on 580. will try for more. @ 1.100 volts now.
I play bc2 max setting and in dx11 mode and transparent aa 8 on (driver level). On 285 to hit high fps i needto run in dx9 mode max setting no aa (dx9mode dont let aa on ) and was geting same fps. SO in short the 580 is more then 2 times the power of a single 285. i also got the 285 666core overclocked to 750 (stock cooler).

The memory bandwidth of the GTX 580 is only about 30GB/s more than the 285... how much does memory bandwidth have to do with performance?
I recently upgraded from an XFX GTX 285 to the 580 in my sig rig and I can say that I am really happy with the upgrade. The 285 was for sure a decent card but it was always a case of finding a good compromise between resolution and settings to get a solid vsynced 60fps. With the 580 you just whack everything up to full and it works amazingly well, I am very happy and agree with the previous posters who say it's a decent upgrade.

Ah, awesome. Thank you everyone!

I don't suppose anyone could explain to me the detail with overclocking the GPU? What's the most important... Core, Shader, Memory, all 3?
