What would be the best gaming laptop for $1500??

First off, i was not sure where to post this since there is no LAPTOP section anywhere (unless i'm blind and stupid), so sorry in advance if posted in the wrong place.

I have a friend that wants to get a gaming PC, the thing is he wants a laptop since he just bought a normal desktop PC not to long ago and just does not have the room for another desktop. I told him that he can gt a desktop with same performance for several hundred dollars less than a laptop, since you are paying for the privilege of mobility... he understood that with no problems.

I'm no laptop guy, so i have no idea what is the best possible gaming laptop out there for about $1500 USD. If anyone with experience can lead me in the right direction, it would be heavily appreciated.

Ya gaming laptops are kinda of a lost cause. They run red hot and chew through battery's like crazy!

If he has to have one look at Alienware they are overpriced but all gaming laptops are.

Well my Asus G72 has no problem playing all the latest games at max settings.... and I got it for $1300 a year and 4 months ago. Although to be honest, I had to run Crysis Warhead at the level just below max. If you look around, you'd be surprised how well laptops can perform.

Does it get hot? Yes, so get a laptop cooler and take off the bottom panel. That saved me 14 degrees Celsius.

If he was stuck on a laptop for gaming, I'd stick to Asus. Alienware is way too pricey. Sager is great, but for 1500, he wont get anything but the bottom line. With Asus, he'll get a lot of bang for the buck. And they're very upgradeable too. Currently I'm waiting for the next Asus G series laptop to come out.

When you are carrying around a big laptop cooler, an external mouse (can't game on a touchpad), a separate headset (laptop speakers sound awful), the charger pack (battery life lasts 2 hours if you're lucky), and a carrying case (can't let that shiny expensive toy get scratched or stolen) it kind of defeats the purpose of mobility.

A console doesn't take up much room at all, is designed to play games and is much more cost effective. If he really insists on a laptop get one that isn't a monster and is actually useful for other things as well. An ultraportable like this one can still do some light gaming and won't cost him an arm and a leg:
