Running Clients+Gaming

Thread Starter
Alright, so, I'm looking to upgrade my PC.

Right now I've got something set up where I run clients, each client uses about 1/2gig RAM and 7% CPU Usage. I'm looking to being able to run about 10 of these clients, and be able to play a game like HoN or BC2. These clients do not use my GPU at all. These clients do benefit from the use hyperthreading.

I was thinking about maybe getting a server, but I wasn't sure if I would be able to game very well. So I decided to come to good ole reliable OCN. I do not really have a budget, but I'd like to keep it under 2k. I do not have a preference to AMD or Intel for this build. Things I will transfer from my current PC:
Hard Drive
DVD Drive
Both 5770s
Sound Card

Other then that I will need everything, including mouse, keyboard, monitor, OS.

wait what? you dont need a upgrade? just swap out that mother board for 1 that supports 24GB RAM and then go buy 24GB RAM and a few big HDD's.

I see how you can understand that, but the problem is that whenever I open up a game, everything messes up.

Plus if I upgrade, I could expand the amount of clients I am running, which would make me a lot more money.

In my opinion, i would go with a server based system with dual CPU on one Motherboard type deal, That way you can have a large amount of RAM and an awesome amount of CPU power, You can either go with AMD and save money or go with Intel which might be a little bit better, also you can keep the video cards, this system will handle gaming just fine.

Thanks for the post Slakjak. I wasn't really sure what would work best for the price, though. I'm not really up to par anymore with performance of CPU's, let alone server ones.

Well its kind of common sense, 2 CPU's on one MOBO with tons of ram will run very well and very fast, combod with your GPU it will run any game along with the multi-tasking. Just make sure you get a good amount of RAM.

I would recommend atleast 32GB RAM for a server, but its going to cost a ton.
