Thread Starter
building a rig soon after i sell my dell so heres the specs

-LG dvd-rw
-xion predator case
-xigmatek 500w psu
-AS5 thermal compound
-3x 2gb a-data 1600 ddr3 ram
-msi twin frozr II gtx 460
-asus p67 (not sure which, and most are sold out at newegg)
-i5-2500k
-3x coolermaster 120mm blue led fans (hgh cfm but low noise)
-XSPC rs240 kit
-kingston SSDNow 30gb
-samsung spinpoint f3 1tb
- some cold cathodes for looks
- win 7

Totals about $1100

i got 3x 2gb ram sticks because SB doesnt support triple channel but i wanted more than 4gb

Should i get a gtx 460 or a ati 6870? they have about same price and performance

Planning to get into 4ghz club with this tongue.gif

Keep in mind that you won't be able to run your rams in dual channel. Though, I dunno what's better, 6gb in non-dual channel vs. 4gb in dual channel. I just say that you had better save some money to buy 2 sticks now and another 2 later

I probably wont be going sli and iif i do it wont be for a while
i use http://www.overclock.net/graphics-cards-general/502403-graphics-card-ranking-5th-time-last.html for all my ranking needs
And how does a single 120 rad sound for just a gpu/cpu loop?

Ok that's for my last post: http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/his_vs_evga_midrange_gaming_face_off_review/1

A single 120 rad for both cpu & gpu is not enough imo. Go for 240 or even better a 360.
PS: It's in the essence of the overclocker's to always want more wink.gif
PS2: BTW AS5 is getting old...just sayin' ^^

if you havent ordered yet... drop your RAM...
get this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820178265

this way you can get 8 gigs... put it in dual channel, and you will be better off than 6 gigs non dual channel solution.

*EDIT* Also look into a different PSU, i know its cheap, and Xigmatek is good on fans... but you dont want a 50% failure rate on your PSu, and a good quality PSU is worth its weird in diamonds.

look at:
