so far I use WMC for recording using a pci HVR-1600 while gaming with l4d on a q9550...it does it fine although Its not my main pvr pc...otoh I have another PVR drone that has 2x tuners that records and I just access the recorded shows wirelessly (ddwrt wrt bridge) and watch it on my other htpc...the drone is also running some convertions via MCEbuddy just so that I can test Apple/Mac compatibility and quality for playback purposes to another TV- for your rig ...I think it can do it smoothly provided you might have to config the recordings on another hd separate from your gaming files...to reduce hd access time /read/write...if not you can still test it out which can work good on a raid0.5 setup (I think sandy can handle the stress without any hiccups)

This. CPU power isn't an issue. Most quad-cores are already well in excess of what's usually required for gaming and simple recording at the same time. You'd be mostly faced with an HDD I/O bottleneck especially when loading maps, etc. You might want to buy that OCZ Vertex 3 as soon as it comes out.

There are other programs that work like WMC, but many have to be bought.

As others have said, any performance drop that would come from recording TV while gaming can be mitigated by recording to a separate drive other than the one you run games off of.
