Laptop getting very hot - 90C

Thread Starter
My laptop (Asus U50F) has been getting very hot lately. I don't game on it - only watch videos or listen to music.

When I'm watching a video the CPU heats to about 80-90C and starts lagging. I have a cooler pad that blows cool air - which helps, but doesn't totally solve the problem.

I opened up the bottom of the laptop and there was very little dust in the CPU heatsink. It also looks like the heatsink is hard to take off - and if you tamper with it it will break a sticker (voiding the warranty).

What is the best way to keep the laptop cool?

I have an U50F as well, and had the same problem.

I did some digging on my settings, and it appeared i had it to battery save mode. I used the intel power4gear Hybrid program to change to entertainment settings, and voilla. My laptop suddenly was cool and fast again.

Perhaps you have the same problem? Worth a try.

Wow, I thought it was on entertainment mode anyway. For some reason it was on battery saving mode.

My temps are now 40C idle, and 50C when watching a movie. Thanks!!!

Hehe, your welcome.

Problem solved, topic can be closed.

Edit:

A quick edit. On the battery save mode apparently the fans won't engage, thus the problem arises of getting to hot. I have no idea why they won't cool at battery save mode. Powering fans isn't that big of a power drain, is it?

I have a U50F also, only had this problem once when some reason my fan decided to shut off during a movie I was watching, which lead to it reaching the 90's which is scary.
