Is my GTX470 damaged?

Thread Starter
So I got a GTX470 a few months back... I have only recently started gaming with it though as I have been very busy at school the last few months and I was curious about something...

I got Metro 2033 a couple days ago because a friend had an extra free code and didn't need it... I installed it and started playing and I am getting terrible fps... I was running it at 1920x1080, all the settings up, and 4x AA and I was getting literally less than 10fps...

Same with Crysis, I booted it up put some depth of field mods on, Very High settings, 4x AA, 1920x1080 and once again like ~10fps or less...

Also the Shogun 2: TW demo... I was trying that out and with all the settings maxed, at 1920x1080 (no AA as it wasn't enabled in the demo) I was getting some pretty terrible fps there as well, zooming in on battle would drop down to <10 fps... And I would rarely pop above 20fps from a zoomed out perspective...

Not to mention it gets really loud... Like I can hear it over my over the ear headphones from 6 feet away... Is the 470 not able to run those games at those settings and is it supposed to be that loud or is my card defective? I have run some other games like WoW, Dawn of War: Retribution maxed out fine... At the same resolution, with AA...?

Thanks

A 470 cant handle the games that your trying to play maxed out, seriously, your trying to play the most graphics intensive games at the highest settings on a fairly high resolution and your wondering why your getting low FPS? When I had SLI 470's I couldn't run Metro2033 maxed out AA, Depth of Field, ect. on 1920 x 1200. Trun off Depth of Field, turn down the AA and you should be fine, there is nothing wrong with your card.

You won't get anywhere close to maxing Metro 2033 on a single 470.

u using default fan settings? wot temps u getting while gaming? if its over heating, it might affect performance. mine is pretty quiet, but gets to the high 80s pretty much in all games i play, but then again, im ok with high 80s with stock cooling, still much cooler than my 8800gts back in the days....
anyways, i always play games at 30fps or more, crysis i played at 1680x1050, 2xaa, i get 35+ average no problem, turn off depth of field!! do a default benchmark test on crysis, see wot u get. i think most 470s at stock get about 30ish +/-5 at 1920x1080 depends on cpu i guess. if u still get about 10fps, then there is something wrong with ur card. but like others have said, with the games and the settings u tried, ur basically asking too much from the 470.

its hard to max that game on just a single 470..SLI is your answer..or upgrade the card..

regarding your issues, are you cranking the fan up when playing??sounds your card is dying because of heat..

An EVGA reference 470 is going to be loud and hot. 470s and 480s run extremely hot without aftermarket cooling.

It also isn't powerful enough to push those kinds of settings by itself. Doesn't sound like anything is wrong with the card.

@OP Card seems fine, those games are pretty demanding (My 470 can't run Metro on very high too well, so I run high). If your CPU is at stock you should overclock it, you'll get loads of FPS from that.

Considering most game on 1680x1050 or less, its still on the upper end of the sale. Not everyone has the cash to spend on high-res monitors
