How does this compare to 2xgtx570's. I have to wonder which is better for overall performance, higher clockspeed vs more SP's?

Unless of course these much lower clock speeds for the 590 are correct.

You are not taking scaling into the equation(the AMD's tend to scale better on this series of cards), nor the lowered clocks of the 590. It could very well get beaten depending on those factors. My guess is about equal, but the 590 costing a little more.

Except the 580 SLi is not faster than 6970 crossfire if the resolution is high enough. And the 580 core draws more watts than the 6970 core-so if AMD had to lower core speeds nVidia will have to lower them more.No one spends $500+ on GPU's and plays them on 1080p.So your logic is flawed.

I'll do a 'simulation' of my own..

hold on..

Backed by evidence found in my 'simulation', I've found that the GTX 590 can achieve Nuclear Fusion.

If you do a GTX590 vs 2x GTX580s you would see a difference between the 2 even at the same clock speeds. I refuse to go by those charts.

QFT

Here's an old comparison I did about a year ago that clearly represents this: 9800GX2 vs. 9800GTX SLI

Don't act like it invalidates the simulations.

There is about a couple percent win for the single PCB in the various benches (see second page for GTX 295 one) shown in the thread Open1Your1Eyes0 references. The whole point of the simulation was just to give people an estimate of the 590 if it has 600Mhz clocks. Complaining about a few percent error is pointless in an estiamte.

The real problem with the simulation is that I will be shocked if the 590 clock is not at least 650Mhz...

i think it should be around 650-700 since 600 MHz is a ridiculously low frequency for modern GPUs.
btw nice to see HD 6990 being slower in dirt 2 and BC2. and it's only slightly slower in metro
There's no way two GF110s will feed two 8 pins and run at close to stock, I'm guessing. The problem is really power consumption here.
