Began searching for the article i mentioned below while typing the post.
While typing this, I recalled on the companies website they were bragging about never implementing bandwidth caps.

While searching for that news post, i found out they cap their service to 7GB / pay, and 200gb a month. Then they throttle. So, both ISP's in my area are now capping usage... Hell, 7 Gigs would be used by a single game, or 1-2 movies using netflix.

Thanks for the heads up about ATT, I was already thinking of switching to the local cable.. But I would rather live with 150gb a month than 7gb a day. I do realize that 150 a month is about 5GB per day. Still, I would rather choose how much i can use in a day. Considering that going over 7gb in a day will get you a 3 day throttle at 30kb.

Avoid Broadstripe.

I do believe its time to leave Michigan.
Might not stop at leaving Michigan...might want to leave this country all together....at least in EU I can pay for GOOD FAST internet that's cheaper then what I pay now. At least Ill have quality capped internet instead of fail capped internet.

You'd think that the operators of digital media services would at least attempt to do something about this since this is going to greatly affect their business. With caps like these implemented they will probably lose most of their customers for fear of outrageous internet bills.
Thinking about the countless number of customers that know nothing more about the internet than that they type in an address and go, I wouldn't be surprised if alot of their customers went over their caps to begin with. My grandparents use Netflix and even if they send them a letter they won't understand that they will be limited and can't continue watching movies to no end. AT&T will have to explain that digital media services use alot of bandwidth, more than they offer most of the time, and that their streaming/downloading habits will have to change.

There is actually an easier solution to all this. We could make our own cross-country internet network separate from the current infrastructure. it would be very hard to pull off and we would need ALOT of people to get it going but if we could start something and have it big enough, the ISP's would have no choice but to compete with it....

Yes, we're going to have a few people whine and cry about it on the forums like what we're seeing now, but in general, US companies know our limits and they push our buttons every single time because we have people with a attitude like yours.
Actually people like you that just speak their bright ideas but do nothing about it. Anyone can say what they please, but actually having an idea to back it up is different.

You have no plan at all to prevent this yet you go on saying it's our fault because we allow it to happen. I can't think of any reasonable way to avoid this, can you?

Your only real option is to switch to a different provider which will obviously hurt AT&T, but you'll still have a cap because most companies are doing it now. Not only that but everyone that decides to switch providers will only hurt themselves in the long run (economy, peoples jobs, etc.). Another option would be to start your own company but I doubt that will happen.

So please don't go saying it's our fault like we can do anything about it.

Start a petition and start spaming your politicians and whatever federal agencies you have in place that deal with these type of things.

Get the ball rolling, yo.

Yay for redneck ISPs. They even uncap my download and upload speeds after 8pm or so. I've got a 5 meg plan but after 8 or so i can pull upwards of 25 down.
