[Eng]AT&T will cap DSL and U-Verse internet - Page 6

i'm going to complain tomorrow

it's a good service but we're supposed to pay around $40 a month for phone and internet and one month they charged us 53, and after a call they backed down. next month it was 83.

not to mention the ping spikes.

no forget it. caps are fail. i don't want some cap - any cap. and 150GB? heck i could pull that in a few days. no ways. i hope engadget is dropping the ball here. if not, i will look into changing.

Mom uses netflix constantly, and i use the net streaming youtube and gaming plus downloading off Steam. when Dad comes it'll only be higher. this is ridiculous

To give you an idea what bandwidth consumption to expect from Netflix alone. This is the bandwidth usage from my internet provider (Cox Communications) who just started this crap a month or so ago with a 200GB limit. I've used 121.52 GB...I would have to watch internet surfing and game downloads if I didn't have a second modem/IP.

My family and I watch Netflix solely on my secondary modem. We use Netflix approximately 3-8 hours per day. (Lots of children's programs, then movies at night.)

It's really upsetting that most service providers are implementing this cap. They're trying to sway people back to cable T.V. and rentals.

Bunch of nonsense.
Q. Why does Cox enforce bandwidth allowances?
A. Bandwidth allowances are necessary to ensure that extremely high bandwidth users do not negatively impact other customers using Cox’s broadband network.

whats the problem then?

I wonder how much bandwidth I use...

Regardless, I don't like caps of any sort. Hope this doesn't become the norm.

I've had DSL from ATT from day 1 that I could get it here.. back when it was SBC. This caps really got me more pissed at ATT than I have ever been which is saying something. There customer service is a absolute joke.

ATT as a whole is a absolute joke actually. I'm definitely going to be complaining and looking into my other options. 150GB isn't nothing for me to burn through in a month living with a family of 4 with netflix etc.

I just wish one time a major company would step up and not be all about money, but rather giving the best services to their customers.. but I don't think that will ever happen.

Exactly! ATT service and quality is the worst. I am sure 99% of the people here will agree. This is absolute crap. I pay $22 a month for netflix. I pay for that service yet im gonna be punished for using it. I pay $60 a year for XBL. Yet im gonna be punished for using that service. Any online service you pay for will be an absolute waste. I watch netflix daily as well as browse OCN daily as well as various other forums. And then I like to game of course. 150GB in 1 month? More like 1 week at least. Think about it. You buy a new game on steam. There goes 20GB over 1/10th of your monthly GB usage. So you are also being punished for purchasing games online. Oh I could go on and on....the entire industry is moving toward being internet based. What electronic component is not somehow connected with the internet now? Every single thing is being implemented online some way some how. Oh yes greedy corporate and national leaders strike again. Are there seriously no such things as morals anymore?

Well, I'm screwed. My only other option other than ATT is Charter, which has been capping internet usage for a while already.

...

So... when do we start getting charged for the air we breathe?

I recently had AT&T and have since switched to Comcast. My reasons? I was getting throttled like no tomorrow with speeds of 1Mb/s during peak hours and only when 2AM rolled around did I get my advertised speed of a whopping 5Mb/s. With Comcast I'm getting up to 22Mb/s down and about 3Mb/s up.

I hope to the internet gods that America's internet future isn't throttled and capped to all hell just so movie and record companies get their greedy ways.
