...

So... when do we start getting charged for the air we breathe?
Just debating this with a friend a few minutes ago a said the exact same thing.

Netflix: So *** ISP you are killing our customer base!
ISP: Tough luck netflix.

Yet this is somehow legal....makes a lot of sense. Greedy greedy.

Yea, around the DFW area, there's not much else besides ATT U-verse. There's Time Warner, but I don't believe their service is as good... at least it wasn't a year or two ago.

In Lubbock we have Suddenlink. They offer some pretty quick plans, but I don't think they've begun capping yet.

AT&T want you using their TV service, not Netflix or other internet streaming tv/movies. So they cap internet so most people will go back to Cable TV/satellite.

The only reason I've stuck with my ****ty DSL IS because there is no cap. When( I'm certain Frontier will follow suit) Frontier implements a monthly cap, it will surely change my lifestyle.

My experience with AT&T has been pretty decent. When I first moved in and switched to AT&T service I had problems with dropped connections for what seemed like a full year. After that everything seemed to straighten itself out and I had very few problems. I monitor download speeds through DU Meter and I can't say I've ever been throttled, I always get at least 90% of the bandwidth I pay for and more than during off-peak hours. This will be the first bone I have to pick with AT&T's service as I definitely eclipse 150GB's each month. I can't believe that only 2% of their total user base could possibly only reach or exceed this limit, that's a cold hard lie. Because I stream music, videos through Youtube and Hulu, download & play games on PC and PS3 I'm some kind of minority?! I'd sooner believe that number should be multiplied by 20 to find a more accurate account of the users that use or exceed 150GB's each month. How many people use Netflix or other similar services? How many use PSN? How many people pay for XBL? How many people purchase games via Steam or some other digital download service? I thought the industry was moving towards digital, this is a big step in the wrong direction if they ever want that idea to see the light of day.

I only have 3 choices in my area for broadband: AT&T, Charter, or Clear. The last two have bandwidth caps on them already and AT&T is joining the dark side for greed. It's really strange that despite the protests from teachers in some states, companies can still get away with something like caps and limits.

Some of the more advanced developed nations have gigabit speeds (feel sorry for Japan though after that natural disaster) for much lower prices per month. Hong Kong seems to have the cheapest so far and must have one advanced infrastructure built recently.
While in the US, we still have really old infrastructure for broadband and companies use the old tactic of bandwidth caps and limits just for the sake of profit. No updating or even upgrading their infrastructure at all.
