This sucks hopefully they will change it. I hate caps and sooner or later every company will have them....

The supposed users who use a "disproportionate" amount of internet today are the internet users of tomorrow.

My entire house hold streams Netflix, games on PSN, XBOX Live, download/buy games via Steam. The list goes on and on. We have many legitimate uses for our internet connection and being gouged for using what we pay for is not one of them.

I need to start researching the fastest, uncapped, internet connection I can find in central Texas. Most specifically the Austin area. Timewarner cable and Grande Communications immediately come to mind. Does anyone know of others or if Timewarner/Grande are capped as well?
Time Warner tried to implement overage fees back in 2009 based on how much bandwidth you used over the limit. Like if your plan has a limit, TW charges $1 per GB every time you go over it. That plan failed due to customer backlash and state representatives with legislation against Time Warner.

Funny thing is, the CEO thinks the caps will be inevitable and he wants to bring back the overage fees if you go over your limit.

Can someone explain to me what the cap is? Does it cap how much you can download? I never understood what a bandwidth cap is...

So... say... this web page has 1 GB worth of pictures and text and other things (I know web pages are nowhere near that large). If I view this page, does that mean I used up 1GB of my total bandwidth?

It's basically how much you download and upload stuff from the Internet. Online PC gaming, Xbox Live, PSN, torrent downloading and uploading, streaming music and video, and even simple web browsing.

Yup.

They charge a sort of 'overdraft' for every Gb over your cap. If your cap is 250Gb, and you use 350Gb @ a dollar a Gb, you own the ISP an extra $100 on your mothly bill.

lmao at the nerd rage. these guys can literally stop your internet connection. this plan is as dumb as the "ddos my own ISP" thing someone here made a while ago.

Yea but then they are violating their own contract which in turn means I don't have to pay a contract breaking fee

I have U-verse and although I think I won't go over the limit, I think i would much rather have my connection throttled to like half the bandwidth after I reach my cap.
