XFX 5770 Weird graphical crashing issue on XP (sort of long post with specs)

Hello guys. I've built my machine a few years ago, and I've had nothing but good experience with the system, especially the HD 5770. It played all games well, without crashing, without any hiccups, without issue.

About 5 months ago, when I woke up to check my computer, I smelled something very foul/weird so I checked the case and it turned my power supply was messed up. So I immediately got a new one and at that point, it seemed no other hardware was damaged and the system was perfectly fine with the new PSU.

About couple weeks ago, I started having graphical crash on my system. It happened while playing games, just surfing the net with nothing else running, or even just logging into my windows ID. I suspect it's a graphical crash and not a system-wide crash because it played sounds fine when it crashed during a game play or movie play.

At first I thought it was heating issue, so I bought some thermal paste and reapplied them onto my CPU/GPU. But now, I doubt it's a heating issue because my CPU stays in 30s and 40s all the time, and my GPU never goes above 65. I even experienced graphical crash while logging into my windows ID from a fresh boot up, so it can't be the heat.

To describe this crash, there are occasions where the whole screen turns green with white lines going, or turns yellow with white lines, or sometimes it just turns all black. When it does crash, restarting computer doesn't seem to solve it because it would crash right away during window logging-in.

Most of the time, if I just unplug everything, take out the GPU, let it chill for a bit, and plug everything back in, that works. It is very very weird. There seems to be no way to constantly reproduce the crash, as it has happened during just about any activity on the computer, including non-game and non-movie activities. Here is my setup.

CPU-Z Screenshots:

PC Wizard Screenshots:

GPU Clocks: Factory default @ GPU Clock 850MHz // Mem Clock 1200MHz

PSU: Corsair CMPSU-650TX 605W +3.3V@24A, +5V@30A, +12V@52A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@3.0A

-------------
Using Driver Sweeper, I've tried newest ATI driver, and many different versions that some people were recommending off google search. It did not solve the problem. Only thing I have not done yet is a complete format.

Do you guys think that when my old power supply was messed up when my computer was on overnight could have caused some damage in the GPU? Or could it be that maybe something is yet again wrong with my new power supply?

I can put up any extra info if needed..thanks guys!

first I would run furmark and see if your card is artifacting, then run memtest to make sure that your RAM is ok

also have you scanned for viruses, ran CHKDSK

one side note: it would be appreciated if you could crop your images, most of what you are actually showing only takes up 1/6 of the image. Some people here at OCN (not me) still run on slower internet and takes the pictures a while to load. you can printscreen the selected window by using alt+printscreen and pasting it into new bmp image

Thank you for your reply!
By vcore I would guess you mean the cpu voltage right? I loaded 25 separate firefox applications and 10 World of Warcraft windows.

Task Manager showed CPU usage at 49%~51% and CPU Z showed core voltage from high 1.1s (ie 1.178 1.189 etc.) to 1.200

You'll be glad to know that while I was writing this reply (with all the Firefox and WoW running) on my computer (now I am on my laptop), it crashed once again lol. It was fine all night long when I was just studying for exam (reading PDF, PowerPoint, and Net surfing only).

I run 3 scanners monthly (and sometimes weekly) for viruses and malware so that's not it. When I get back home from school today, I will run the other tests you recommended as well as take different screenshots. Thanks!

Hopefully my system will be ok because after these crashes, it normally crashes during loading windows (screen just turns blank)..either during the MS-DOS looking screen before the XP Windows logo screen or right after automatically signing into my Windows username.

1. So I just ran the newest Furmark for 30 minutes.
Temperature raised and was kept at 72~74C the whole time. Did not crash.

2. Just ran some AV/Malware scans (AhnLabV3/Comodo/Malwarebytes), found nothing.

3. I also ran Everest's stability test for 30 minutes. It did not crash. CPU and all 4 cores stayed around 62~72C at 100% CPU usage with stock cooler. Temperatures for all other components stayed below 40C. This test was stressing FPU, CPU, Cache, System Memory, and Local Disks. During this stability test, voltages were:

CPU Core: 1.15
+3.3V: 3.38
+5V: 5.00
+12V: 12.42
DIMM: 1.54

I will do a CHKDSK now and run a memtest over night.

btw if you want to load up your processor just use prime95, nice and quick to start, keeps all selected cores at 100% and only 1 window needed. at this point it could be a HDD/RAM issue.

Also I'd try loading up prime95 on all but 1 core and then running furmark and watch your voltages and see what that gives you

If it isn't BSODing that kinda eliminates drivers/software,

but still is worth a try, i'd have a go at uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and CCC, i've had issues before with javascript while browsing, crashing my card due to corrupt drivers.

Select Striker: CHKDSK, SeaTools (I have a Seagate HDD), it found no bad sectors/errors/etc. Also ran MEMTEST overnight, it passed 13 tests with 0 errors.

Skaterboydale: I have uninstalled/reinstalled numerous versions of CCC (the proper way through using DriverSweep in Safe Mode), the crash happened on all of them including the newest CCC.

At this point I have basically tried everything. I'm thinking maybe Mobo/PSU could be at fault at this point. But I have no clue how to test for faulty Mobo/PSU aside from these two things totally not working at all.

I will try the Prime95 + Selecting 1 core at a time + Furmark before I just format my HDD.
