P67 Sabertooth Users With An Assistant Fan

Thread Starter
Hey all - I've been running my ST without an assistant fan, and with the H50 for about a week. The CPU is OC'd to 4.5gHZ, and the RAM is running in the XMP profile, so the voltages are up a bit from "stock". When I run the ASUS monitoring software, and view the sensors, the VCORE-1 and 2 are around 40c, which is pretty warm. I don't have a spare 50mm fan lying around, so I rigged a 140mm fan to blow cold air on the motherboard - the temps are way down on all the MB sensors (VCORE-1 and 2 are down to 30c, and not one temp over 34c).

My question for those of you using the assistant fan on this board - are your temps noticeably cooler with the fan running (are they higher then the temps I have now)? Should I just keep my ugly (but very effective) cooling solution?

Thanks!
El Tigre

I picked up a 50 x 10 mm fan at Microcenter for $6 or so...
No significant difference no. But it also cant hurt, My one concern is it pushing dust into the TUF armor and getting trapped..
The temps without the fan were well within normal specs.. Do I regret getting it?? No, but I probably wouldn't buy it again if I had the chance.

i dont remeber where i read it, but im pretty sure you can take off the TUF armor. it might give you better temps if u do this, although... isnt it there to help airflow over the MB?

derpderp edit: just saw you were useing the H50. i read somewhere that Asus said if your not useing a Heatsink/fan CPU cooler that you should install a 50mm fan.

One of the reviews I read of the Sabertooth P67 tested the temps with the TUF and without it, to check if it actually did anything. They showed slightly better temps with the armor. A couple of degrees, but still better. And that was without using a 50mm, which would help even more.

Here is the test that Vortez did with and without the thermal armor. The difference is a couple of degrees for the most part, but the thermal armor does make a difference.

I am currently running
ASUS Sabertooth P67 b3 revision
i7 Sandy Bridge 2600k @ 3.4ghz ( havent had a chance to OC yet)
8g Corsair Vengence 1866 ddr3
ASUS NVIDIA 560 GTX Ti
Corsair 1200w Pro Series PSU
Antec 600 case
Corsair h70 cooler

Now , I am not using a 50mm fan for the thermal armor first off. Yes i know big mistake , and I am currently ordering one. But my ASUS utilities show my VCORE 1 temp to be 119 C and my VCORE 2 to be between 32 to 35 , and my cpu to be 32-35 as well , the mother board stays around 27 to 30. any thoughts ? is this a false reading? possibly a bad component ? or just bad airflow in which case I will need to switch to a downward draft cpu cooler on top of adding the 50mm thermal armor fan.
Please a little input here guys.

Sounds like a bad reading. I've had the software spit out some abnormal readings before.
