Bottle necking question: GTX 465 SLI

Thread Starter
Hello,

Been trying to get my system to work with GTX 465 SLI. This required me to cross-flash my Asus P6T SE mobo with the regular P6T bios (since SE doesn't have the certification for SLI, but is otherwise identical to regular P6T). This worked fine, my mobo can recognize the SLI now, but apparently my PSU, while 750 W, is lacking enough amps to power both. Now I am debating buying a new PSU, or returning the extra GTX 465 and abandoning my SLI hopes...

My question is: would I even get that much more out of GTX 465 SLI with an Intel i7-930 2.80GHZ 8M LGA 1366 CPU? In my recent internet search I've learned more about bottle necking the GPU(s) with the CPU.

I appreciate any help. Thank you.

My system:

INTEL i7-930 2.80GHZ 8M LGA 1366
1TB SATA II 3.0 GB 7200RPM HD
3 x 2GB DDR3 / 1600 MHZ MEMORY
ASUS P6T SE X58 (cross-flashed with P6T bios)
XTREMEGEAR 700 WATT POWER SUPPLY
EVGA GTX 465 1024MB PCI-E DIRECT 11

They scale like mad, even with only a moderate cpu oc you're still looking at a +70% fps increase.

Why don't you sell both gtx 465 and buy a single gtx 570 or gtx 580 if you do thant you should OC your cpu like 3.8-4.0 ghz then you gpu will work at full power. What kind of monitor do you have? (resolution ).Sorry for my bad english. Peace

I see. What if I'm not oc'ing my CPU? Currently I hadn't gotten into that, I'm new to some of this stuff.

As far as selling my two 465s I guess I didn't think that I'd be able to get that much money for them second hand, although I suppose that is an option.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to do one bump for this, just seeing if any one else has any idea about how beneficial these 2 cards would be for my CPU if I wasn't overclocking...

Thanks
