Anybody has issues with nvidia drivers in ubuntu?

Thread Starter
I own a gtx 560ti and recently downloaded the latest ubuntu os. However, it looks like **** literally and im trying to make ubuntu look normal not oversized. I'm trying to update my drivers from my gtx560 but when i do it from ubuntu it tells me i have no hardware drivers to be installed. Then yet when i try to change resolutions and add extra effects it will not let me as my drivers are disabled... Anybody ever had this issue or is it just me? I've tried downloading the linux-64bit driver for ubuntu but got stuck in there, it tells me i have to open it with some application and blah blah blah, so i gave up on ubuntu... Anybody can help?

hmm... I usually install it from the command line without the window manager running. Its like gdm stop or something, its been a while since I used my desktop. Look for some guides to install nvidia binary driver on ubuntu on google.

EDIT: Oh yeah, don't forget to install build-essential and dkms and I think it was sudo service gdm stop to stop gui, then navigate to where you downloaded the driver, then sudo sh NVIDIA*.run. Make sure that the driver file is made executable first: chmod +x NVIDIA*.run.
