In my setup, the temp sensor is right after the water-block outlet fitting. This is as close to getting a sensor to the active heat dump into the loop from the processor without modifing the water-block.

Having the temp sensor in the RES will give you an overall temp of the loop in general. So it will not see any immediate temp spikes from the loop heat sources. This would work well for those who have mild OCing. For extreme OCing, the closer to the outlet fitting of the block in the coolant flow the better.

What about this sensor:

It is easy to fit anywhere. I have one before the radiator inlet and one at the outlet as well. The temp. difference and flow rate will give me a good idea of the heat dumped using the heat flow equation:

Q = m * c * dT

Where
Q = Heat (measured in Joules. 1 joules = 1 Watt second)
M = mass (in this case the mass of the water going through the radiator in the timeframe we calculate over) - we get this from the flow rate.
c = Specific heat or heat capacity per unit mass of a body. This variable is dependent on: the material used (which in this case is water), its temperature and the presure. For water it is close to 4 J/G*C at 15C and 101.325 kPa). I dont think it changes much at other temperatures and preasures but this is where my physics knowledge ends.
dT = Change in temperature between inlet and outlet of the radiator.

Is that a pass-through sensor? So it would go between the compression fitting and the radiator inlet/outlet?

Yes it is. You screw it before you fitting.
It come in a female-female version as well if needed.

Any idea if that will work with a lamptron fan controller touch? It looks like the same two pin connector as the sensors that come with the lamptron

I use the sensor with a MCubed BigNG fan controller. I am 99.9% sure it acts as any analog temperature sensor which means it will work with any controller having analog sensor inputs.
