Anyone have experience with Virgin Mobile?

Hey, I am looking at finally getting rid of my old Tracfone and looking into getting a smart phone because I am at a stage in my life where I am getting to need internet/email access when I am not near a computer. I also am using the phone more so it would be good if I did not have to buy minutes as often.

From what I have found out, the lowest level plan (which should be all I need for now) is unlimited data/texting, and 300 call minutes per month for $25/month with no contract. I need a cheap plan b/c i am a college student and am on a very tight budget.

Anyone have any issures/horror stories about virgin mobile or are the a good provider? Btw, the phone I would be getting is the LG Optimus V

Its powered by sprint so it will be just a hair below Verizon. Pretty much tied for second for quality. The phone is good. The optimus has had a few other versions out and all of them have been ok. Ive got the Blackberry andn the same plan.

Alright thanks. Now I just have to wait for the phone to come back in stock. It is either out of stock everywhere or ridiculously overpriced :cough: ebay :cough:

I hear that.
I dont need or want an android phone so I just went with the blackberry but the optimus has gotten decent reviews. Its not full of features or crazy fast but its a solid phone with enough power to be respectable. It doesnt have flash but thats easily remedied by downloading Skyfire.

As for Virgin Mobile they piggy back on sprint so they dont get quite the same quality all the time. It is a very reliable network though.

Here in australia they have the best plans and their network is the second best (they piggyback off optus, the best one, telstra doesn't share their network with anyone. Monopoly FTW ).

As for the US, I'm not sure. If the plans good I'd go for it, population density in the US makes it a lot easier to implement good phone networks.

Check out radioshack, they normally suck for most everything but they had by far the largest stock of optimus V's I have seen anywhere.(at least where I am) I've been using an optimus V for about a month and a half when I switched to the 25 dollar plan from tmobile and it has been great so far. I get about 1500kbps down and 700kbps up on average for data here in Minneapolis so it's imo the best deal you can get on a data plan. Just wish they had some high end models but the optimus V runs most everything perfectly fine with very little slowdown outside of certain games. It sucks that it doesn't have flash but check out skyfire, it will convert flash videos into html5 which can be played just fine.

There have been some issues involving data drops but there have been several fixes that seem to work for most people, I personally haven't experienced any issues and get a nice constant service. Check out http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-...solutions.html if you experience any data dropping issues, there are other threads in that forum as well that have the proper number to call for the escalation line which is who you will want to contact as they actually know what they are doing compared to the regular customer service line.
