1 reason why I am leaving ATI - Page 2

Yeah, 11.x has been nothing but a nightmare. I'm enjoying 10.12a, no issues. Kinda pisses me off that they can't release proper drivers, though.
It is funny to me to read this thread because I am a long time NVIDIA user that has recently switched over to ATI (5870 2GB)... I have had absolutely no driver issues, the 11.4 preview drivers work great
post #13 of 218
I am going crossfire 5870's on my next build and I'm hoping that I wont have too many issues with the drivers. Should be starting soon as I get the rest of my parts in the post tomorrow.

It's a hit & miss really, and that's the damn shame. Some people can install 11.x and have them work perfectly and get great performance increases. Meanwhile others will get display crashes, huge FPS loss, etc.
A few people that go on the Linux subforum might recognize me.
I hate AMD. I seriously do. Tell me how the drivers for the 560 go on Linux, because I do plan on getting one in ~2 weeks.

just a heads up for ati:

When running one card - there are virtually no driver problems - it is when running two or more cards in xfire that the problems start

I had one ati 5850 and I loved it - great bang4buck + it was quiet + efficient

and now I am moving onto xfire 4890s and I am preparing for a *****storm of driver problems

my only problem with ati is the display driver has been recovered during hulu and youtube sessions the one where after your video goes green maybe it's a message

99% of driver problems are either PEBKAC, PICNIC, TSTO, or ID-10T error. the complaints of driver problems between nvidia and ati are the same... there is no 'premium' you pay for 'better' drivers... of course there are some issues that arise with drivers from both companies, but these are like side-effects from taking medication.... it effects maybe 5% of users. just my 2 cents

Anyway, Their drivers freaking suck turds out of a outhouse behind a pig pin! I mean, I installed 10.10e a while ago and waited a long time to update my drivers.

Then 11.2 comes out and I decided to update. Well, I installed it but the driver install kept failing. I kept on getting HDMI/DP audio driver failed to install. I then tried it with 1 card and xfire, same thing.

I thought to myself, maybe it is an issue with the where I got it. So I grab it directly from AMD. Well, guess what? SAME ISSUE. Repeated above. SAME THING

So I went down the line. 11.1, 10.12, 10.11 (or havever it goes) back to 10.10e.. Every single one of them failed except for when I went back to 10.10e. It magically works again.

Bye crappy drivers, hello juicy new graphics card!
Me to,
I had a 4870, hated the driver issues and I'm getting a 570 SLI now
Bye Red, Welcome Green

I hear of PEBKAC a lot. Seems like the new trend on this forum.
