Looking for a sound card

Thread Starter
I'm looing for a decent sound card that doesn't have any Win 7 64bit issues. So if anyone has experience with one that would be great. My budget is only about $50-80. I have a $25 off coupon on Newegg so I would like to use it on this.

Thanks

The Asus Xonar DX is a great card that is within your price range given the coupon. I'd so you cant go wrong with that.

Sounds like a good card, but some of the reviews about it have made me slightly skeptical about it. Hmm...

"Pros: I've used this card on two different OS's - XP and 7. On XP, this card was incredibly solid, and I never had any problems. On Windows 7, however...

Cons: Windows 7 drivers are very unstable. I have many games (Stalker series, Oblivion, Baldur's Gate II to name a few), which crash regularly unless I disable hardware sound. Looking into the cause of the crashes, it seems that hsmgr.exe (the card's software) is the cause. The worst part, when the crashes occur, the sound that was playing at the time loops infinitely, and the only way to get rid of it is by rebooting."

I know to take reviews with a grain of salt though.

Sort by helpfulness. Just read many of the top reviews, all claiming great support for windows 7 with easy installation.

I've had nothing but problems with the Xonar series' drivers (Unified + offical).
Really hit and miss, as one update will fix issues and cause others.

Technically they're solid and it does put out nice quality for the price.
