i5-750 or Phenom II x4 955?

Thread Starter
My dad needs a PC for some picture editing and he asked me to build him one. I already have a HD 5650 GPU I can use and a bunch of other stuff like RAM, so all I need is a MB and a new CPU.

Which one of those CPU's performs better WITHOUT overclocking? Specifically, which one is better when using Adobe Photoshop since he will spend 95% of the time on the PC editing pictures.

Meh, I guess I could overclock it.. But which one is better before OC, and which one is better after OC?

core i5 750 would smack a Phenom II around all day long.

and to be honest. a core 2 quad would smack around a Phenom II..

truth is Intel core 2 or nehalem is faster then Phenom II's..

955 is cheaper, but the i5 is ~4% faster for what you want it to be used for.

i5 750 is not that much faster than the 955 for photo editing
955 is faster in games than i5 750
and a core 2 quad is the same performance as a phenom 2

the only thing the i5 750 'smacks around' a phenom 2 955 is in video editing, showing a 22% difference in encoding speeds.

F**king fanboys.

I recommend that you buy i5 2400 or i5 2500. Both are faster than i5 750

i5 750 is even faster than PII 965 in gaming

EDIT: check this review, i5 750 performed better in 3 out of 4 games against PII 965

Why aren't you considering Sandy Bridge?
The i5-750 is faster, but also considerably more expensive.

I thought most games utilize GPU, not CPU *is a noob with computers*. I don't know whether it is true or not, that is just what I have heard.

Only time when CPU is used is when I run multiple clients of MapleStory or RuneScape, and that gets my 4 cores on my 965 BE to 90% or higher, and doesn't really affest graphics since those games have horrible graphics anyway.
