Meh, I guess I could overclock it.. But which one is better before OC, and which one is better after OC?
1. You posted in an Intel forum, your responses will be biased.

2. Both are good chips. I don't have enough specific experience with both to give a recommendation.

I hope your chip at twice the price would beat a phenom II. $140 vs. $290. But he could get the 955 + a mobo for the price of your chip.

You post this in the intel section, of course its going to be biased

I'd get the AMD for the price/performance difference

here we go again...

well honestly i upgraded from a Phenom 2 before to an i5 750 and for doing it..it was worth it..was able to push the i5 better and was able to enjoy playing it..gaming is another story where you see minimal effects..although the 4% change includes it..

overall DDR3 is sweet with the i5's rather than on the Phenom's

most games wont see any difference with comparable cpus... unless they are coded to use the cpu more than gpu (gtaiv, black ops, etc.)

i am trying to give you an unbiased honest opinion here. i am no expert, but i have 28 years of experience and knowledge of computers and technology. all this talk of intel vs amd is like car buffs talking chevy vs ford or honda vs toyota... they all have the same or similar offerings and at same or similar price points for same or similar performance/options... the truth is for video/photo editing the i5 is 20-25% faster... other than that the two cpus perform pretty much along side of each other overall, give or take 1-5%.

Having both owned an AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE, a Xeon x3440, and an unlocked 555BE, I would say buy the i5 2500k over both. But if you were stuck with the AM3 or 1156 sockets, I'd lean with 1156.

The Intel architecture is just much better than the AMD architecture. The only thing AMD has going for it right now would be the x6 processors, but even then I'd recommend the new Sandy Bridge CPUs over that.

The i5 is the faster chip, so it really depends on how much you want to spend because you could buy the 955 with a cooler and overclock it for the same price you would pay for the stock i5.

and to be honest. a core 2 quad would smack around a Phenom II..

truth is Intel core 2 or nehalem is faster then Phenom II's..
if "Smack" in your vocabulary means "To be less or equal", then you're absolutely right.

Intel processors are generally better when discussing multi-tasking, video encoding, etc... all the professional stuff like workstations for instance.

Pure gaming - the 955 outperforms the 750 more times than the i5 750 outperforms the 955. And why are you mentioning the C2Q? Is it well known that the 955 outperforms the Q9550 almost in every benchmark lol (not only gaming...).

Get the 955, it is much cheaper, and will get you +- the same performance.

Are you comparing them stock vs stock ?

Anyway, most reviews shows i5 750 being faster than PII 965 in most games

In anandtech review, i5 750 is better in 3 out of 4 games.

Anyway, there is no reason to buy i5 750 when you can get i5 2400 or i5 2500 for the same price.

Sandy-bridge quad core is faster than similar priced AMD processors (specially in photo editing softwares, which he want to use)

Here is the proof that Intel CPU are much better in photo editing softwares
