8" Active Monitor Recommendations

This is not "High Fidelity" in the truest sense, but felt the thread would do better here.

ESI nEAR 08 Classic/eXperience, Behringer B2031/3031/1031A, Mackie MR8, M-Audio Studiophile Bx8a.. All within price range of 400€, maybe 500€ MAX but that's stretching it. I haven't got the option to listen and compare them before the purchase. They don't have to go low per se, I'll get a real subwoofer to take care of the lowest register later, but if they got into the 50Hz ballpark with relative ease that would make them a much more valid and sensible purchase.

Things tried:
- Genelec 6010, really enjoyable but too small for a big room, NEEDS a subwoofer to sound complete, bigger Genes would cost me helicopters.
- Audio Pro Addon One (specs looks and size-wise the same as Audioengine A2), clear and detailed sound but lacked dynamics and started clipping on moderate volumes because of the tiny size, also needs the subwoofer
- Tannoy Mercury F1, tinny, hissy, recessed (more like absent) low frequencies, bright
- KRK Rokit RP8 I found a tad bassy (not bad in itself always) and muddy, some agree but I don't know if it was the acoustics..

I'll be using them off an Asus Xonar Essence STX, Nuforce Icon-2 line out or a Maverick D1, haven't decided yet.

Even though I'm convinced in their superior quality I'd like to stay around 400€ for a pair, sorry for not disclosing a budget earlier. And the reason I'm asking is precisely because most things in this price-range aren't too "high-end" and I understand some manufacturers might be a tad "cheap" in quality, so first hand experience would be quite helpful and googling doesn't tell me much.

Prodipe Pro 8 Ribbon looks fairly decent for the price, almost like the B3031A. Mackie MR8 MK II too and I've heard lots of good about them, but they're 520€ a pair and that's quite steep to be honest, would love to be able to afford some speaker stands and a DAC too.
