Overclocking CPU slows GPU

Hey,

It seems that while I have my E6400 overclocked from 2.13GHz to 3GHz, my graphics speed suffer (both 2D and 3D). I haven't ran any benchmarks to see how much they suffer (I can do that if you like), but it is very obvious that they do.
By the way, the CPU overclock seems to be stable according to IntelBurnTest.

I've searched a bit, and I found this similar thread, but it looks like the setting that fixed that user's problem is only available on newer chipsets

How long did you run IntelBurnTest for, and what were your settings? I mean, it may not be as stable as you think.

Well, to be honest, I only ran it for 5 times on maximum stress level (which used about 3GB of my RAM), so it could be unstable. I will run more tests to be sure.

Still though, are slow graphics speeds to be expected with an unstable overclock?

Oh. Then I recommend no longer overclocking anything at all until you get a higher quality PSU. The one you have now is the culprit because it has a very weak +12V rail capacity of 24A, which is only 288W. In other words, this PSU is basically a generic 300-350W power supply. It's the death of your computer waiting to happen. So, stop overclocking immediately because the PSU could die under the stress and take your computer down with it. It could even die with everything at stock!

Hmmm... Are you sure about this? How is my power-hungry GTX560 Ti which according to the specifications requires a minimum of a 500W PSU, able to function properly even in Furmark?

Besides, I had the same problem with a GT240, which used far less power (it only functioned with the power the PCI-E slot gave, while the GTX560 requires 2 six-pin PCI-E power connectors).

By the way, here's a picture I took of the label that is on the PSU. Maybe it contains some useful information:

Regarding the stability test, IntelBurnTest has completed 21 passes, and it hasn't thrown any errors (yet?), so I guess that it's stable?

Oh, it's the "GP" model! I didn't know that.

But it's still just a generic and very old power supply (notice the "Pentium IV" sitting there). At best, this is just a 400-425W power supply for more modern systems like yours. Worse yet, it's more of a generic PSU which means overclocking should never be performed with it due to the weak internals in addition to the weak +12V.

So yes, I'm very sure. When NVIDIA is recommending a 500W, they're talking about much newer PSUs.

Additionally, overclocking an Intel CPU shouldn't be done until decent cooling is acquired.
