Do i need to update my bios in order to use linux?

Hey guys, I'm having trouble configuring linux as it looks so huge on my screen... Do i need to update drivers from my motherboard in order so it will be compatible with linux?

I'm sorry i forgot to mention im dual booting with windows 7

What distribution are you using? There are some versions that aren't all that friendly with the newest hardware, most likely you don't have a graphics driver properly installed. Try using one of the up to date distributions such as Ubuntu, Mint, ect.
