Is my new setup too unbalanced?

Thread Starter
I'm just now upgrading from a super budget build from 2-3 years ago to the rig in my signature.

My friend had a similar budget buying at the same time as me... he went with an amd 975 with a 6850 (at my recommendation, he won't overclock and didn't know what to buy) but I decided to go with a 565, better cooling, and a 6950. I'm completely new to overclocking, but I'm learning, and hope to get to 4.0 ghz on my hyper 212+.

Would it have been better to get a thuban and a 6850 instead of the 565 and a 6950?

I'm going to be using this rig to game on, 95% of the time.

Thanks!

nope it aint unbalanced

if you had an amd sempron with phase change cooling and an amd 6990 then it would be unbalanced

nope that's fine for gaming.

Make sure you try and unlock that 6950 also!

That would be a sight to see I could sell that 6990 and buy an entire new rig.

I was reading so much on the 6950 unlock. Made me pretty nervous. I'm still withing the RMA window, so if I were to try now would be the time to do it... but from what I read, sapphys had issues sometimes doing that. I was thinking of unlocking just the shaders, but thats a pretty modest increase. The 6970 bios would clearly be a better upgrade, but I really don't want to fry my card... though really the unlock was a big factor in my purchase decision to begin with. I think I might just go for it.

This. If it doesn't unlock I would say unbalanced for multithreaded games, fine for lightly threaded games.
Dual core will have trouble with Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 1/2, COD:BO, Dawn of War II, Supreme Commander 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, etc.

More and more games take advantage of quad cores nowadays. I had a 555 that didn't unlock and it was definitely a bottleneck gaming in some titles.
