According to the slide: No.

If their pro is a gimmicky sounding thing instead of just BETTER PERFORMANCE, it can be guaranteed that it isn't better.

That slide is a system price based comparison... Nothing more.

Something tells me the 8 Core Zambezi is NOT going to be affordable...

They have already stated one module will produce 80% of a Dual Core's performance.

Therefore, it would be about 1.6, not 1.5, technically...

Obviously the 8 Core / 4 Module Zambezi CPU will be in direct competition with the 4 Core Hyper Threaded Sandy Bridge CPU, from the way I see it, it should either match or beat SB's performance, and I'm hoping for the latter..

Do I really have to come in here and say the, "we dont know any thing till benches thing."

Honestly, let me ask you this..

WHY the heck would Intel drop from 500$+ for mid to high lvl during the i7 days to 300$- range for SB?

Think about it...

almost there? Think a little harder...

Because they know BD will beat SB so they undercut it to go for the whole "value" thing that AMD has been using for the last 5 years. Intel knows About BD.

Why do you think Sandy Bridge-EX isn't out yet?

SB-EX is Intels counter to BD.

Platform advantage: "More Cores" and "Overclocked"
Makes me go :/ a bit. All I need is a quad, and intel overclocks as well.
So aren't there gonna be any advantages for me in the $700+ system range, or what?

I've been hoping for awhile now that AMD could somehow pull out a victory for another year or two like the AMD64s did when they were first released. I guess the difference between now and then is that Intel was resting on its laurels with some terrible P4 processors, and that is definitely not the case now.
Socket 2011 isn't going to be much, if that, faster than 1155, it's the same exact core, just more actual cores on die, if AMD makes a 16 core BD for Desktops then that'd compete with the 2011 easily, hell, even a 12 core probably could assuming its around Sandy Bridge in IPC.

Bulldozer should not have those issues and the "enriched" will remain on 32nm just like the first.
What about Deneb vs Thuban? Thuban is around the same speed but clocks better and fits more cores on die.

That'd tip Intel off straight away though, maybe they want Intel to under-estimate their performance.

More likely to be BD only competes with core counts though, I'd think.

IPC likely will be the same, core count will be higher.

If AMD is competing via IPC as well as Core count, they'll compete with Sandy Bridge-EX in non-multithreaded scenarios, otherwise they should be worried.

But it's still faster than 4 physical cores, hence, its unfair to say that AMDs shared cores can't be counted but Intels HT ones can.

And quite frankly, I don't care if you're comparing an AMD single core to an Intel 1000 core, if they cost the same then it's fine because I'm not going to go "Wait, that chip may be faster clock for clock, but it has less cores..." when I'm buying in a certain price bracket.

In heavily threaded scenarios I'm fairly sure the x6 wins?

It's only in usage scenarios that use under 4 or 5 cores that i7 wins.

I'm waiting for benchmarks personally. I've got a machine that needs replacing.
I have a feeling it'll be more efficient than HT all around but have a massive disadvantage in memory and cache intensive programs compared to real cores, how massive completely depends on how much work AMD has done to the way the CPU accesses cache and how fast.

That's what I'd imagine anyway.

If your going balls-out no price limit, or are buying just the CPU*, then Intel.
The problem here is that Intel killed all backward compatibility...?

bad news for AMD fan boi's if AMD is just pointing bulldozer to fight with sandy bridge. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against AMD. I own a 1090T system and a 980x system, but where it matters AMD is way behind Intel and will probably always be that way.

Son, do you forget that Intel was in the same situation a few years ago?
