I fold therefore I can always use 8 threads. But threads are not cores, my good watson. So lets call it a Quad.

True, threads are not cores. But clock for clock a Sandy or Nehalem HT quad will smoke a Thuban in folding.

For my 1055T OC'd to keep up with my i7-950 at stock...the 6 core Thuban needs overclocked +25% to do what the 4C/8T Nehalem does at stock. Sandy is a good deal faster in cranking out PPD-and is much easier to OC a good deal higher.

So, my first time ever, I will be building an *ntel Desktop. I really struggled with the motherboard and finding any of them in stock these days is like picking a needle from a haystack. (Note to Newegg, you really need to reveal if the item is in stock on the search filter. Some of us get really excited when "Adding to Cart" to find out that they are SOLD OUT.")

Here's what I have on it's way:

Intel Core i7-2600K
MSI P67A-GD65
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) CL8
Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2
LG Black Blu-ray Disc Combo SATA
CM690 II Advanced
Noctua NH-C14

What I already have:

2 x MSI N460GTX Hawks for SLI (Thanks Booty Warrior)
One or two of the many 7200 SATA HDDs I already have laying around for Storage

5GHz, here I come!

I saw a thread here saying that AMD was saying that their Bulldozers would just be a response to the current sandy bridge CPUs, which heavily implies to me that the first wave won't be any better.

@caud: That was the conclusion I came to. Decided to go with Sandy Bridge cause I have been waiting on Bulldozer for too long. Still an AMD fan, but when I want a performer that is going to last me 5 years like my current rig, I can't argue that AMD is the way to go right now.

Well I was planning on waiting for Bulldozer until a couple days ago when I saw mwave had P67A-UD4's in stock. Got a 2500k and 8GBs of RAM to go with it.

Sandy Bridge overclocks so well and is already such overkill for gaming that I figured the extra 2-3 months of enjoyment I'll get from the P67 platform was well worth it. I'm just sick of waiting and kind of peeved that we have absolutely no benchmarks or reliable information regarding Bulldozer's performance.

With Sandy, I know that I'm getting an incredible performer at a great price and, most importantly, I can get it right now. Bulldozer may be no better then Sandy for gaming and I would hate to wait 3 months just to find that out.

I'm still waiting for bulldozer. I don't even use the computer as much as I'm in college right now, so the wait really isn't that hard for me.
