Anyone have any bad experiences with water cooling? - Page 3

nothing but good things here, i was so confident in my recent loop i didnt even leak test... and of course, it's running fine no leaks you just have to take your time and pay attention to the details

Now that's taking water cooling to extremes, LOL.

-Fried a pump feeding it 30V.
-Nearly burst tubing on my GPU loop when I accidentally disconnected the pump molex screwing around in the case.
-Nearly cause a fire when compression fittings leaked (my own fault) while testing a radiator with aquarium heaters (with thermometers bypassed).
-Have had tygon burst in my face when testing with household water pressure.
-Many a chopped fingers playing with high speed fans

But it was all a "Good" experience in my book. We learn from our mistakes, but only after we admit they were our own fault and man up to our own actions....
Not sure if it's a good thing, or a bad thing that I've done/had some of these happen to me. Never did feed 30v to a pump though! I bet there were some sparks flying as that poor thing tried to expend all that energy!

Wanted to add blowing up an old creative sound card due to a micro leak on a Tt acrylic cpu block. It was so tiny, that the only way I found out what killed my card was the evident green dye that had cooked into the pcb over time. I've also had a barb outright strip the threads in an old apogee block and send my 7900GTX to the morgue prematurely. At least the tubing held to the barb.

Like Martin said, I don't think it really matters how careful you are, you'll have something eventually happen if you w/c long enough.

Everything turned out great with my first WC experience.. I took care to make sure everything was properly tightened, cleaned, and in working order.. The two annoying things that happened were a few spills from overfilling the reservoir and wasting tubing due to lazy measuring.

Definitely wouldn't recommend water cooling to anyone not willing to invest extra time into being as careful as possible during setup. Paranoia can be an advantage here in small doses.

This thread has convinced me that it was a wise move to opt for low conductivity coolant.

Isn't low conductivity fluid only good for a short time? I thought any coolant becomes conductive over time.

I always thought that it was the stuff in the coolant that was conductive, like water isnt conductive the minerals etc in it are.

So the older the liquid and the more dirty it gets the more conductive it becomes.

All the bottles of "non conductive" liquid i have say it only works up until x degrees anyway, so if the liquid is hot you arnt covered.

Best way is regular upkeep and making sure everything is fitted right.

Had a leak about a week after I leak tested. One of the lines must have been defective as it cracked and started spewing ~.5 gpm of distilled all over. Luckily it ruptured where my fans are, nearly all the water was pulled through the exaust fan or mesh in the panel.

Killed power right away. Dried ASAP and hair dryer. Ran fine next day. Funny thing, runs better now
