6950 - Worth it to unlock shaders or OC with my CPU?

Thread Starter
I have an AMD 565 coming tomorrow that I plan to OC, I game on a single monitor @ 1920x1200, variety of games.

Is it worth the risk to go for the shader unlock & OC on my new Sapphy 6950? I'm still within RMA window, but after reading all the threads on 6950 unlocks I'm wondering whether it's worth the risk. Will my CPU bottleneck the GPU anyway, or will I notice any real world gains?

Thanks!

Personally I wouldn't worry about the gpu clock at the moment but more so getting your cpu as high as you can or hoping it unlocks. With a gpu like that you'll be bottlenecked a bit with a dual-core

Shaders unlock is not a risk as far as I know. It is risky when you flash with full 6970 BIOS. Compudaze did a good comparison between the various options - shaders unlock, shaders unlock + OC, full 6970 bios, etc.
It appears that shaders unlock gives about 2 - 3% increase in performance. So, if you do not care about that 2 - 3% increase (which amounts to about 5 fps), then just OC with the stock BIOS and voltage. With ULPS disabled, you can OC easily to 900 core clock and about 1350 - 1400 memory (mileage may vary).
