$600 budget shipped - Page 3

Check this out, I just put this together on another thread. Same budget so:

Phenom II x4 955 + GA-870A-UD3 - $235
MSI GTX 460 768MB Twin Frozr - $150, $130 AR
G.Skill Ripjaws 2x2 1600Mhz CL7-8-7 - $50 after promo [see link]

- $40 shipped [Amazon]
Antec Earthwatts EA-500D - $54 after promo [see link]
Samsung F3 1TB - $51 shipped after promo [superbiiz - see link]
ASUS 24X DVD - $18 shipped after promo [see link]

Total cost: PERFECT.
$598 before rebates and shipped for all items
$578 AR

What you've already put together doesn't look that bad actually, just you might be able to get better value.

The first thing I would look at would be getting another hd. A blue w/ 16mb cache is on the lower end of performance, but depending on what your actually going to need it for does leave you with the option to go straight to the top later either with a 10k, ssd, or even just mechanical (wd black, f3) w/ a sata3 and 64mb cache.
That will be my first upgrade, thank you. It's been quite a few years since I've done this.

That's a bummer. But, on the plus side, this is just meant to give me a base to work with, so I can do smaller upgrades in the future. Hopefully someone else that's looking in this price range will see this though, and get that deal

A few smallish changes. I've taken the advice with the F3, and even though the deal is no longer working in the link for the 1TB, I bought one of them on Amazon. I also picked up a 212+ CPU cooler, and some Arctic Silver 5 (I remember AS from when I was doing builds full time years ago *sigh* memmmmmmmmmmmories.....)

A couple small tweaks, but, they will hopefully help some

Oh, nice, I didn't see any listed when I bought it. I guess I'll have some spare AS then.

Thanks everyone for the help and advice by the way. I've been reading the forums for quite a while and finally decided to stop lurking. You guys are great!

Corsair is high quality ram, this specific ram isnt ment for hardcore overclocking, but not sure that the OP is looking for that anyway. Its good enough.

The Antec 430W psu is more then enough for the 6850 as the build doesnt have crossfire or a i7 (and manufacters like to overrate the watts). http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...-supplies.html <--- its in the list, and i WILL run it just fine.
From the post:

Just my 2 cents
I to have Corsair XMS3 DDR3 Dual Channel ram 1333Mhz overclocked to 1900Mhz with the stock heatspreaders that they put on and i love my performance puter is nice fast and strong to play black ops, crysis 2 MP Beta and crysis warhead to with 60 fps or more :-)
