GTX 580 or wait for GTX 590/95?

Thread Starter
For me, it all comes down to the power consumption and performance as I understand that 580 is relatively quiet and produces less heat compared to his predecessor.

But here's what I ain't sure about, the GTX 580 eats around 150 watts at idle and 350 at load if looking at all the benches. By the end of the year, is the electrical bill going to be much of a difference compared to, let's say, an HD 6870? (~ 130W Idle ; ~ 250W Load)

Speculations are that 590/95 are, of course, going consume way more so I ain't really sure if it would be wise to get the latest GPU when basing yourself on performance/power draw. Still, do you guys think the 590 will be worth the bang?

Also, I was considering getting dual GTX 580 but then again, with the all new NVIDIA monster GPU coming out, things aren't as clear as they were 1 month ago.

Thx!

Cant say until the 590 is out my friend. The 590 is a dual gpu card however.. so the comparison would not work out very well. It's going to draw more power, but also give that much more performance. The 580 is a beast of a card on it's own, I can tell you that much :O I don't see a "need" for a 590 anytime soon, I don't think upcoming games will fully utilize it as is with all new top end GPUs. Of course, if you're playing crysis and metro 2033 on max settings 24/7 that's a different story.
