What to upgrade...?

Thread Starter
Getting that itch to upgrade something on my computer, but I can't decide what!

Things I am thinking about...
1. Second 5870 for some Crossfire love
2. New case... something a bit quieter than what I have now and not so cheap feeling, but which one?
3. Nicer CPU cooler, something that will work better with the X6 (not ready for a water loop yet)
4. Something really cool I don't even know about.

So I am open to some recommendations. I use my computer for school, gaming (NFS, Battlefield, MoH, Mafia II, etc), video transcoding, programming... Pretty much everything.

Depending on the upgrade and utility provided, I don't want to spend more than ~$200.

Thoughts?

Not sure about your current case, but changing to a haf 932 lowered my cpu temps decently.
I would not bother xfiring a 5870. Crossfire only shines in the 6 series.

If you like lower noise and cooler temps you could bump up your budget to something like silver arrow. 160x140mm fan can push some good air without much rpm, so can be reasonably quieter comparitively.

Not sure how much utility precisely you'd get, but this is an awesome case upgrade

, looks sweet, has lots of great options, and is more closed so should be somewhat quieter than your case. Though Ive not used an M59 so I'm not sure what it's like, other than looking at its giant side fan in picsheh.

Those two come to roughly $200, and your system will be better seen and not heard
I'm pretty sure that it will fit, but you might wanna double check.

I wouldn't recommend a second 5870 personally since that card can still rock just about everything by itself.

Case upgrade sounds pretty solid. If you start messing around with another 5870, you might be looking at a PSU upgrade as well. If you're even remotely considering water I wouldn't buy a new air cooler, might get some buyer's remorse on that one.

You could buy a cpu cooler+ case and sell your's .The cooler you could keep it fanless and haf 932 is silent or haf X.

How is that cooler? I will check out some reviews but haven't heard much about it. I used to have the Scythe Ninja a while back...

So it looks like it will likely be a case. I like the Haf 932, but does anyone else have any recommendations?

A water loop would be nice, though you stated that you aren't ready for one yet.

I'd go for a new case - for $200, you could get a FT-02 or perhaps an ATCS 840 (though a revision is apparently on the horizon).

Hmmmm see this is where the utility steps in on my decision making. I am not the type that can stomach paying quite that much for a case alone, but thanks for the suggestion nonetheless!

What do you think of the Antec 900? There is one for sale locally for $60...

Hmm, I'm not sure how much the Antec 900 is an upgrade from your current case.

How about a CM 690 II Advanced? It's probably the most versatile mid-tower I've owned and is not too expensive. It also has good water-cooling potential if you decide to go that route in the future.
