Cant get 3.4 GHz stable

Thread Starter
So I managed to get 3.2 GHz stable with this, now I tried going for 3.4 but P95 gives me errors not even 1 min in. I tried uping the core voltage as high as up to 1.5v, p95 lasted a little longer but it still failed.
Now there are several settings which I did not up too much. My MB allows me to increase voltages (overvoltage) on my DDR2, FSB and (G)MCH. I tried bumping each one to +0.1v but still no luck. So what would you recommend me to do ? Is it safe to lets say increase the FSB voltage to +0.3 V (max available)

What is your RAM output speed when you have your FSB at 370+? are you choosing the RAM multiplier in 1:1 ? If not the RAM over spec, maybe the board is cutting you back, as it only supports 1333MHz FSB.

Yeah its 1:1, I managed to get it to stable on 3.2 without it being 1:1 though.

Well, my guess is on the board then. that board isn't know for its great overclock capability...:/

as you are running 4 x 1 sticks of ram. you need to add more voltage to the NB (northbridge, the G mch) this will fix it. just raise it a 2 or 3 notches

if you dont believe me, remove 2 sticks of ram and i bet you, prime will run longer.
also for testing a cpu overclock use Intel Burn Test, its better than prime

what revision Q6600 have you?
a B3 like mine will need 1.4v
a G0 should only need 1,3v ish.
you should be able to get 3.2GHz with 1.4v easily so if you get it stable, by increasing the G mch then turn back the cpu voltage to 1,4v (less volts, less heat)

also make sure you have realtemp or coretemp running when stress testing
and as matroska said, your mobo is not good for overclocking quads

If you have the 'Static tRead' setting in your bios, make sure you not leave it at Auto. It is the Performance Level. Try 10. If that works try 9 or 8.

Will do, can it damage it though if I raise it to max ? (max is +0.3 V I think).
Anyway I can not get any version of Intel Burn Test to run for what ever reason, I get the message that the test has successfully completed in 0.11 seconds everytime I try to run it. I tried the older versions also, the same thing. Before I formated though I was able to run it, and its the same OS so I do not know what could be wrong.

you need to run intel burn test properly

you have to run ibt properly
close down all running programs inc. antivirus, msn etc...

before running, open task manager and see the amount of free ram.
for example i have 2550mb free ram so in IBT i enter a custom amount of 2500. (just below the free amount)
then i change the threads from auto to 4 (quad core)
now every run i make i always get around 40-42 gflops. (consistent)

" I would choose 'free' memory as available memory will also make use of cache memory which must be storing data for other applications aswell. Windows may free up some physical memory from the cached memory during testing but not totally and i think the rest will be the virtual memory as a compensation.

Available = Free + (Cached - Modified)"

running just free memory will help you get higher gflops, as its just using free ram and not cached ram
this should also have 4 or 2 cores running at 100%"

this will give you more consistent gflops score, but will also make your temps higher, as more gflops, the more the cpu is stressed

full details on running IBT properly http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...test-linx.html

a Q6600 at 3.2ghz should be getting at least 38gflops

edit, try the Gmch with +0.2 first before going to 0.3, you will be fine
also as other poster, make sure ram is at stock, either 1:1 or it will say either ddr2-800 or 400mhz

Thanks for the info, I did everything it said to do but still the same thing happens.

I always get this message, no matter the settings etc. I even set the bios with all the clocks etc to default to see if it will work and it does not.
