GTX 460 SLI vs HD 6870 Crossfire

Thread Starter
Hello guys,
I'm building a gaming system with a dual GPU setup. My options are
1. ASUS GTX 460 1 GB DirectCu SLI
2. Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1 GB CrossfireX

Which one will give more performance? Both of them are equally priced here in Bangladesh & theres no other high-end card in stock now.I will be buying the system tomorrow. It will be on a Core i7 920 system (already bought). From what I've heard Nvidia does better at tessellation than AMD.I will be gaming at 1920x1080 resolution on a single display. I want to play all the latest games (mainly DX11 Games) in the highest possible FPS & Settings. Please suggest me the best config between the two.smile.gif

Thanks in Advance,
Rakin

I think the Nvidia will do a better job for gaming.

6870 CF. They generally outperform 470 SLI.

No.

OP: Honestly, it doesn't matter. Either combination will play every game out there maxed with 60 FPS at 1080p.

The 6870s will cost a little more, provide a little more "performance" but also come with AMDs "wonderful" drivers.

The 460s cost a little less, but use a little more electricity. They're a no brainer if you're into folding.

While you guys are comparing 460s to 6870s, remember that those are mere 675mhz 460s. Performance scales wonderfully with higher clocks, something that can't be said for the 6870s. Also, 2 460s can be had for 300 USD. 2 6870s will cost you at least 420 USD.

Either will serve you well.

As op have stated, both cards are the same price in his country. So why not get 2x 6870?

Yeah? What of it?

The 6870s gain -nothing- with overclocking, while Fermi is well known to overclock like nothing before. Compare overclocked cards wink.gif
