attempted 7750 BE unlock

Thread Starter
Hello,

I've just had a run at playing with my motherboard's settings to see if it will unlock the processor's extra cores. Gigabyte provides very few options in the ACC screen, namely, I can't select cores individually, all I can do is turn ACC on and choose EC Firmware as either hybrid or normal, as well as change the % over/underclocking. But as far as turning cores on, it's either all or nothing, can't just choose a third core for instance.

Steps taken:
0. Read the 10.5 unlocking guide
1. Freshly updated BIOS after playing around, so settings are reset clean.
2. Changed EC Firmware to "hybrid"
3. Turned on ACC to Auto (separately also tried the "all cores" for this one, bios lets me select % for all 4 cores)
4. reboot.

There was no name change and windows also didn't register changes. I then also tried disabling Cool'n Quiet as well as something called A1C.

My question is, am I at the end of the road? Are there any more buttons to press? Is this a case of unlucky chip actually being un-unlockable, or perhaps my motherboard isn't allowing it?

Also, does disabling Cool'n Quiet have any impact in a situation like this?
And has anyone seen the A1C setting before? You can pick Auto or enabled/disabled. I can't tell a difference between modes.

I'd genuinely appreciate any pointers!

Thanks for your help,
myOnlyComputer

Thanks for your reply amd-dude.

Turning on ACC and setting it to "all cores" hasn't unlocked the cores for me.

I'm currently trying to bump up the voltage to see if that will do it.

I use amd OverDrive to check temperatures and stuff because it seems comprehensive, however, it seems like it might be lying to me. After setting vCore to 1.375, overDrive continues to show the 1.325 setting, while at the same time cpu-Z reports 1.376. I've attached an image.

Do you think overDrive is lying to me? Can overdrive interfere with this process?
And what's the difference between using overdrive to set ACC on and simply switching it in the BIOS?

Thanks for your help,

Aha!

Okay, thanks for the info Riskitall. I'll stop messing with it now. ACC on and 1.4v pumping thru and nothing. Hopefully when I get a nice cooler I'll be able to add a few hundred free MHzs. As of now, I can't even run the gpu Folding@home because doing so pushes the processor to 90+ degrees.

Anyone care to comment on the overdrive -- cpuZ voltage discrepancy?

It's not amd overdrive giving you the discrepancy it is reading the current voltage. The same thing happens to be when i use hwmonitor or any monitoring program really. Even when i disable cool n quiet and C1E it still does the same thing.

When the chip is idle and just waiting for something to do it sits at 1.4v but as soon as i put it under any load it rises to 1.43v again i have disabled all the power features or atleast i think i have. The only other thing that can be causing that is LLC but i see nothing of the sort in my BIOS....just wing it i guess

Set your ECC to Hybrid and All Cores. Leave the core settings at -2.
If that doesn't unlock them then you can't unlock them as they're bad. Only weak cores will unlock, not bad cores.
See pics. 1 of my weak core.

dont expect much of an overclock. ive read the original phenms didnt overclock that much at all. you might get a few though, it is a trip core and all i saw were quads. didnt look for any info really.
but good luck with your overclock and dont push too much juice. i hate to see you buying a new board and chip.
