What's superior thermal compound now-a-days? - Page 3

i would personally vouch for the noctua nt-h1 and Coollaboratory Liquid Pro.

The first doesn't really have a curing time and works amazing right out of the box, the second is probably the best performance but is a bit of a hassle to properly spread

I have recently become an IC Diamond convert, great temps that are consistently 1-2 degrees better than AS5 with the added benefit of being non-capacitive (extremely small benefit).

Also good for polishing those damn Intel markers off your IHS.

I have had good success, probably best temps with ICD7; next best with Shin Etsu but I can't seem to remember which one worked better, G751 or the X23-7783D but the G751 was a pain to apply. I'm using MX-2 right now, but am not thrilled with the temps.

I am moving my build into a new case next week and am thinking of trying either Liquid Pro, Indigo Extreme, or just going back to the ICD7. Yeah ICD7 is a bit tricky to apply, but I know the temps will be good.

Depends on how smooth both of your surfaces are.
In terms of pure conductivity in the following:

1) Indigo Xtreme
2) Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra and Pro
3) Shin Etsu 7783D
4) ICD 7.

The best two ones are liquid metal based and are a pain to apply. The Indigo Xtreme requires a reflow at 95C and forces you to use a low pressure heatsink. The Coollaboratory stuff is basically a permanent paste since it sinters (almost solders) the heatsink to your CPU. It is also extremely thin and if your surfaces are not perfectly flat, a used CPU as I found out for example is far from being flat, you will not make contact across the entire surface and will see some weird (bad) results if the application did not go well. The Shin Etsu is a thick paste difficult to spread but works well with a glove or a plastic bag. The ICD is easier to apply but is abrasive: It will potentially wipe out the inscriptions on your CPU integrated heatsink.
