[Java] How to insert a png into a JPanel?

post #1 of 4

Hi guys, before you say it I've tried google but it just isn't clear enough. Could someone please explain it? I've got....
Code:
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;

All imported. Do I need anything else?
Code:
JPanel bottom = new JPanel();
ImageIcon image =  new ImageIcon("image.png");
bottom.add(image);
add("South", bottom);

I've tried the above code but nothing so could someone please explain?

Thanks!

I don't know the libraries off the top of my head, but assuming you have everything imported correctly(while seemingly quite reduntantly as I'm sure you're using no where near the entire swing package) I would check where image.png, and I'm assuming this code is in a BorderLayout class, or an extension to one? Full source would help, as the line add("South", bottom) I've only seen for extensions of BorderLayout.

The easiest and cleanest way to do this is to actually extend JPanel and override the default paintComponent(Graphics g) method:
Code:
public void paintComponent( Graphics g )
{
  super.paintComponent( g );
g.drawImage.....

}
