[MSN] Jon Bon Jovi slams Steve Jobs for 'killing' music - Page 16

I only buy albums when I know its all classic songs on each track.
A great example is Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets by Metallica.

Since these said bands has been using tweaks that are not natural, it is cheating, and thus of lower quality when compared to skill.
These are blanket statements based upon an observed fraction of the music out there. When it comes down to it, it's a matter of opinion which seems to be directed towards mainstream music rather than music as a whole. Maybe those with a cynical view of music these days, should stop listening to crappy music and start looking for better tunes to listen to.

Music today is not crap, you just have to know where to find the good stuff. Music, from my experience over the years, has only gotten better. With mp3s being traded around like crazy, new kinds of music are being made from a variety of different influences, too bad most of it isn't marketable. The mainstream has definitely become watered down to make it cost effective.
Which is why I stated that Mainstream (aka radio and current hits) all sucks, I haven't heard a good 'mainstream' song in years, everything else is so horribly overplayed. Underground and indie, or classics is where the good music lies. Back in the 90s and earlier when every song in a genre didn't sound exactly the same, and rap wasn't filled with auto-tune and people rapping about money and hoes on nearly every song that's played.

I actually miss when everyone listened to CDs and no1 even knew what a MP3 was.

When everyone actually bought music, good music would actually come to the top. Unfortunately a lot of people who bought good music stopped after napster; and the music industry decided they would market to children/adolescents & idiots (i'm not calling children/adolescents idiots, though some are, just that they happen to be more open to influence; a trait common in idiots). So you ended up w/ the garbage we have nowadays; put together by focus groups and marketing firms.

Not that there's not still good music out there, it's just buried under a huge pile of other crappy music that's brightly lit.

I may be showing my age, but I agree with the premise of Bon Jovi's statement. (Not the steve job's part though haha)

Back when we would drop $15 of hard earned summer job money on a cd at an actual record store (remember those?), each cd meant a lot more. The cover art, listening through the first time, discussing with friends, etc.

The holy grail was the "album you could listen the whole way through".
Couple examples, for me anyway:
Stone Temple Pilots - Core
Pearl Jam - Ten
Nirvana - Nevermind
Pinkerton
Of course, pink floyd dark side and wish you were here. Then again those were from a different time where records were made to be listened completely through in one sitting.

CD's like that were semi-hard to come by back then, but now they just don't exist. The industry is 100% single focused. There is just no money in making a real album. It sucks, but it's just the way it is. Create 2 singles, slap them together in an "album" with 8 more crappy songs and send it out. Rinse and repeat every year. They know kids will only buy the 2 singles anyway.

That was the worst reason for not using iTunes. He wants us to buy albums we've NEVER heard just because of the jacket!? That's absolutely ridiculous...

Hrm... the only thing I personally miss are 12" gatefold sleeves and inserts! (Sometimes the gatefold opened like a book with an extra page, a la "Olias of Sunhillow".

I would be a much happier bunny if I could buy 12" sleeves & inserts for any full-album I purchase - be it a CD or a download - scratch that; I rarely buy music online.

I see where he is coming from, too; I have great memories of cycling the 6 mile round-trip just to spend my earnings/allowance on a new piece of vinyl!
