AMD Socket A - Dual Athlon XP CPUs

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter
Hi, I'm about to re-construct a retro gaming pc from 1999 with 2x Athlon XP's (Own 2 PC's with both mother boards burned down, however the CPUs still function.). I'm considering to purchase a used TYAN S2466 Dual Socket A 462 Motherboard & mod the CPUs. But there comes the issue, I own the following models:

Athlon XP 2000+ (AXDA2000DUT3C) - "Thoroughbred A/B" (Model 8, 130 nm)
Athlon XP 2200+ (AXDC2200DUV3C) - "Thorton" (Model 10, 130 nm)

I ain't sure if those 2 would cooperate with each other, also I've not a clue what to use in order to close the bridges on the CPU, is this possible ?

@Edit

Is this it ? No one knows the answer ?

I have no experience in that whatsoever, but I would imagine they would run. 130nm each, not to far apart in time. But I have no Idea, I hope Someone that knows something shows up soon. I would love to see that thing in action.

Unfortunately, no. You have to have matching processors for the board to work correctly. The board uses one cpu multiplier, and the multiplier on those chips don't match, so the board simply wouldn't be able to post.

makes me miss the days of my mobile Barton overclocking

too bad you couldn't find a pair of those, as IIRC those mobile Athlon XP chips were not only multiplier unlocked but also SMP unlocked

Apparently it is possible with certain kinds of XP's. This might be helpful. I'm not sure about it working with different freq. though, since they are locked.

As I've said I'm going to unlock both CPU's to use identical FSB multipliers.

Both to the AXP 3100+ model.

Edit:
Just found a simple way to paint the bridges
