What card to get for Physx? - Page 3

For a Dedicated Physx card without external power, I would pick a GT240 over a GT430 because:

a. it is faster as a graphics card
Link: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...ermi,2766.html

b. it is cheaper
eg XFX (with DDR3) sells at US$35
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-475-_-Product
eg Zotac (with GDDR5) sells at US$52
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-146-_-Product
(I would suggest this one as its price/performance ratio is better)

And, GT240 is not too weak as a Physx card and should not drag down the main graphics cards like a single GTX480 or HD5870 at 1920x1200 (see the 2 graphs below).

I'm running an 8800gt 512Mb with a GTX470. From the benchmarks I've done it only adds 1 FPS for average framerates, but the minimum frames were increased around 15 FPS and the system runs smoother. Just thought I'd throw that out there for comparison.

I've always wondered if the limited frame buffer (512Mb) of the 8800gt was limiting the average frame rates since at 1920X1080 both cards are using around 1Gb of ram. Seems like the 8800gt would have to swap files since it ran out ram.

P45 doesn't really support SLI. I would otherwise.

Good point there. If you are wondering what card would be good then people might keep suggesting till they reach some high card. Why not just go for a second same card so at least you can settle your problems. If its budget then save save save then buy it. You won't regret it. It will keep you running for maybe a year if you won't change your monitor but seeing your processor makes me think. I would go for a Q9950 processor instead to see more performance of that card. You got the money? I am waiting to go for a nice upgrade like a sandy bridge or bulldozer system. For now this quad still has plenty of life in it and I am not doing a P45 hack (already known about it for a while) as I don't have a need. One of the primary reasons for a second card is folding. The secondary reason is for physx.

yeah I didn't mention the P45 hack 'cause really by now its common knowledge. Especially if you have one. (and on this site) The highest powered card that doesn't need external power seems to be the way to go. I'd just make sure it has at least 1gb of ram.
