Hundreds of threads, thousands of posts all over the net for a stupid yellow sticker, that you just have to peel off, and then put back in place. Sigh
The card won't melt, since I can't get over 90 celsius with it, even in Furmark, using BIOS switch 2. All the green drama-queens posting in here should remember the Nvidia 480. It was alot worst, and... MORE HOOOOT!... Short term memory loss much? Hey, I have the card, you don't. So stop copy and pasting what you read somewhere else. Ask the other 6990 owners.
And those drama-queens are also ''forgetting'' about the ''limiter'' on the 580 in Furmark that you have to disable? Dirty little secret. Nvidia had to put a limiter there for a reason. LOL. Hum. I wonder why? No problem with my 6990 and 6970 in Furmark. No throttling, no limiter.
But that stupid yellow stickers is so much more controversial!
It's there only to avoid teenagers living in a their parents besement, spending their parents money, from moving the switch in a mid tower case full of dust bunnies, and with a no-name 650w power supply. You know some will do it. AMD are right to put that sticker for those guys.
Same thing with 580 SLI or Tri-SLI. Try those in mid tower case full of dust bunnies, with a no-name 750w PSU. Oups. Oh no! My case caught in fire!
I have a an XFX 5870 running at 1000/1200 since 1 year and 5 months 24/7. So the XFX bitc*ing is getting long in the tooth. I know the green fanboys are still frustrated since XFX left their camp... but it's getting ridiculous now.
Not worst then Palit, or any other shady Nvidia partners.
And before a green goblin start shouting ''yes, but the noise!''. My 5970 was noisier, and my friends 580 SLI set-up is much worst. Good case, good ventilation, no problems. I don't know how reviewers paid by Nvidia made their measurements, but it was done wrong. Even Guru3d said the same thing, and got much lower noise readings.
It's another overblowned false issue. The Nvidia 480 was FAIL. Not the 6990.
And 580 Tri-SLI and Quad-SLI are making much more noise btw. Edited by Levesque - 3/18/11 at 5:18am
