First Build for OC

Thread Starter
This is my first serious build I am considering overclocking. I have three questions. First, Will the components I have be up to the task of overclocking and how high of an overclock could I achieve? I am also purchasing a Noctua NH-D14 cooler. Second, my friends are advising me not to OC because there is a high amount of risk inolved in doing it. How much risk is there in OCing? Third how would I go about OCing from the BIOS. I have heard for the 1090T BE to do it by small increases in Multiplier and larger increases in Bus speed and then then you should adjust the NB to close to 2500Mhz for a more stable OC. Is this correct?

First thing to consider when OC'ing is your CPU cooler. I don't see one listed in your rig sig so I'll assume it's stock. With stock cooling you'll really need to be aware of the CPU Socket temp, never exceed 55c using PC Probe as your monitor utility. Just don't get crazy and try for 4.0GHz without an upgrade in the cooling area.

Most all components built now days are designed to last approx 8-10 years. While OC'ing may slightly shorten the life span lets use a outrageously high estimate and go with 50%. Even at this rate your components will still last 5 years or more and if your like most you'll probably upgrade some time in that era anyway, make sense?

If you need some real good info to help get started give this thread a good read/study http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ing-guide.html it contains a lot of "How to OC" plus gives you a good path to follow.
