Sapphire toxic crossfire question

Thread Starter
Can I crossfire a regular edition sapphire 6850 w/ a toxic edition?
advantages / disadvantages?
I want to get a second card but unsure if this is a good idea or not. Should I just get another regular edition?

Thanks in advance!!

Do the two cards have different memory sizes? Just remmeber if one is 1gb and another is 2gb, only the 1 gb would be used on both cards.

Crossfire is surprisingly generous with its ability to combine cards (you can xfire a 6870 with a 6850 for example). So yes, you can crossfire a toxic with regular, however the toxic edition is clocked higher by default. I can't remember whether crossfire downclocks to the slowest card, or upclocks to the fastest, but one way or the other you're going to have to match the two cards clock speeds.

My suggestion would be to save yourself a few bucks though and go with a regular 6850, and just manually overclock it yourself, since you'll have to match the two cards anyway.

Yes you can, but the performance gained by the higher oc on the toxic version will be pulled down to that of the lower oc on the standard version. You could always overclock the standard version to match the speed of the Toxic version though.
